Male Breast Reduction
Enlargement of the male breasts is known as Gynaecomastia and is considered a common condition. It may present as a small nodule just beneath the nipple areolar area, which may be quite tender. Alternatively, it could present as larger breasts resembling those of a female.
This condition could cause concern for males and lead to them avoiding certain activities that would expose their condition. There are a number of reasons that cause this condition and it may be necessary to have a few tests to determine the cause, however, most patients do not require any investigation.
At the Breast Doctor this condition can be treated with liposuction, in the event of being mainly fatty tissue, and in the event that it is breast tissue, by an open operation. It is not uncommon to perform a combination procedure.
Incisions are placed in areas that will minimise scarring, which is usually around the periphery of the areola.
Please note that as males can also get breast cancer, all lumps and bumps in this area will need to be reported and examined.
